Hi, I’m Ashita!

And this is the space where I share the things I genuinely care about: fashion brands that are actually worth the investment, destinations most people skip but shouldn’t, food that connects us to the people and places we love, and honest recommendations for things that actually work.

In recent years, I’ve found myself increasingly frustrated with fast fashion culture, consumption for consumption’s sake, and the lack of individuality and taste. I love a great designer piece — but the thought of spending nearly $10,000 on a bag with uneven stitching made in a sweatshop, or $700 on sandals that fall apart after a few wears, left me feeling kind of helpless. If I wanted pieces that were going to last a lifetime, pieces I could pass down to my kids, or my nieces and nephews; where could I actually find those?

That’s where the Worth It series came from. I wanted to find the people and brands prioritizing quality and craftsmanship over scale; businesses that actually care about their environmental impact and give back to the communities they operate in. Every review in the series is an honest breakdown of whether what you’re paying for is what you’re actually getting.

The Worth the Detour series started when I realized how much of the world is being damaged by overtourism. Sites are being shut down. Locals are dealing with complete disregard for their communities and the natural beauty that drew visitors in the first place. And worst of all, we’re actively endangering the places we claim to love. My thought was simple: why not shed light on alternatives that could actually use the tourism, and redirect some of that traffic to places that aren’t suffering under the weight of it? I’ve been to 96 countries. I am a traveler at heart, and I want to make sure we preserve the world for generations to come.

My passion for food comes from my family — it’s how I’ve always connected to both the people I love and the places I travel. The recipes I share here are my way of making great cooking more accessible to everyone, not just people who went to culinary school.

When I’m not writing here, you can find me exploring Austin’s food scene, planning my next trip, my social media content agency, Svara Social, or running my Etsy shops AshPetalDesign and SparkleandSayYes.

Thanks for being here. I hope you find something worth your time.
